Six Impossible things before breakfast

I have become obsessed with Alice in Wonderland again.  Perhaps because every day I hear the expression ‘going down the rabbit hole ‘to describe the act of getting lost within a google search or doing a deep dive into a research topic.  On my birthday this year I bought myself an ‘I believe in six impossible things before breakfast’ large fridge magnet which I look at every morning to ignite my imagination. I love it. But it doesn’t always work.

The following are today’s meagre and flawed attempts at six impossible things before breakfast.

  1.  Get up at 5am- Yes. Impossible.  Didn’t do it.
  2. Get Finn and Buzz to not become apoplectic when the postman arrives- Yes. Impossible.  Didn’t do it.
  3. Do my blog for the day by 7 am – just like getting up at 5am.  Impossible.  Didn’t do it.
  4. Style my hair so that I don’t look like Javier Barden from ‘No Country for Old Men’ – Impossible. Woeful attempt.  Back up in a hair band.
  5. Have a wheatgrass shot instead of adding into porridge- Yes. Impossible. Gagged.
  6. Have an imaginative daydream – There is a place called Dellyland,  just left pass the tree and over the bridge from Wonderland where nothing is as it seems and a world of whimsy prevails.  Buzzwocky and Jabberfinn roam freely offering joyful interactions to anyone of a melancholy nature. – Yes. Possible. I did it.

One of these fine days I shall believe and conceive six impossible things before breakfast. It is a work in progress. A bit like my blog. Thank you for sharing your time with me.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

The forgotten art of daydreaming

Hardly a day goes by when I do not indulge myself in my finely honed skill of day dreaming for a brief few moments. It is a much maligned and seriously underrated skill. Occasionally a mental triathlon ensues. This is the point where my daydreaming encompasses imagination, delusions and fantasy (although I draw the line at hallucinations).

I was having one of my daydreams whilst walking Buzz and Finn. Finn was having a poo and was squatting over my neighbor’s garden plant. He was practically giving himself a plant enema. Bolted out of my daydream I watched wistfully hoping he would finish soon as I would need to begin the clean-up.    He has done this before when I am not being as mindful as I should be.   As he was born on a farm, he is drawn to greenery for his ablutions whereas Buzz is more a middle of the path pooch.  Back to my daydreaming.

Tosh, I hear the cynics amongst you say. Surely this is just an excuse for the lazy, lesser focused individuals to take time out? Not at all. On the contrary, daydreaming allows the mind to meander to a world where stress, Covid and timelines cease to exist, rendering a person more productive upon return to daily activities.

How can thoughts such as ‘Where do park rangers go to get away from it all?’ (Sadly, nowhere now, like the rest of us, but we will get through this.’) Or the leopards? Let’s not forget them. How do they frame their response when a member of their leap refuses to change (leopards, spots?) ….be deemed a waste of one’s time?

And furthermore where did the word ‘sandwich’ originate and not ‘bread wedge?’ Why can I not be just ‘whelmed’ as opposed to being over it? Where does assertion end and aggression begin?  (Maybe when you get too much sand in your bread wedge)

Anyhoo, I ‘m off to have a much-earned luxurious daydream.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

Law of Attraction

Happy Monday to you.

I am a big ‘Law of attraction’ fan. I like the idea of visualizing abundance in order to receive it. However, every time I say the word, I picture a little cake dancing (bun dance). It kinda gets in the way of my visualization technique.

Likewise with the word ‘manifest’. Being a massive obsessive music festival fan, I seem to just picture a festival with only me and lots of gorgeous men.

When good things happen, I ponder on whether I have manifested them. But when bad things happen sometimes, I think the same. Like leaving my favorite black bra down at the beach after a fabulous night time swim last week. I was gutted. I then began to think that maybe my swimming prince will pick it up and ask around to find the person who fits it. It was a nice delusion while it lasted.

Anyway, it reappeared yesterday. My bra. Not my prince. I was sitting in my fold up black director’s chair in a park at a ‘talk about it’ get together for people wanting to meet others and share their experiences throughout lockdown.

There were quite a few people I did not know and it was a really enjoyable nourishing meeting. After the meeting I began to pack away my fold up chair. And lo and behold out pops my bra from the black pocket. I forgot that I had actually been clever enough to put it in there. A young guy picked it up, looked at it and blushed whilst asking me if it was mine. I said it wasn’t and asked if it was his. He blushed again. I have no idea why I did this. Perhaps to offset my own embarrassment. I apologized and said that I was only joking.

He was a lovely young fella, not prince material, and I felt a little bad for embarrassing him. But I least I found my lovely bra. Just awaiting the manfest post lockdown now.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

Twatoo

At the petrol station yesterday, someone was being quite belligerent in the queue. Another customer who apologized had to pass by him to get to an aisle and he loudly sighed and said ‘For fucks sake’.

I noticed he had several tattoos on his arms and wanted to say that I was admiring his ‘Twatoos’ (a twat with tattoos) but as usual I lacked the assertion. I am by nature averse to confrontation and this would have inflamed an already possibly volatile situation.

It got me thinking about the nature of intolerance particularly during these times. It’s all very well and good to pontificate about being kind but I realize that everyone’s nerves are frazzled at present. However, perhaps if I had said ‘If you are trying to be unkind, you have succeeded’. Although in retrospect I am glad that I said nothing.

I got home and as I put the kettle on an Edinburgh fridge magnet fell off my fridge. I took it as a sign and decided I might try and be Scottish for the day. Just to mix it up and take a break from the prosaic. I proclaimed to Buzz and Finn’ -my two morkies-Ach aye the nooo’, and both of their tails began to wag furiously. Who knew that they spoke Scottish? It cheered me up immensely following the petrol station event.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

Cookies

I now realize why I have put on weight. It’s the cookies. They are free. And I keep on accepting them from the internet. At least that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. My delusions are diligently designed to keep me buoyant during these times. But the cookies need to go.

I did some home yoga yesterday. And was quite chuffed with myself. During the session I developed quite an unalluring sweat. Shrek in a sauna was the look that I was going for and succeeded gloriously. Afterwards whilst playing my music’ Sexy back’ from Justin Timberlake came on. I mentally changed the words to ‘Sweaty back’ as they seemed more apt.  If I don’t laugh at the weight, I have put on I will cry. I call it my ‘love fat duvet’ as emotional eating has always been a coping mechanism. I have now decided to reverse this where healthy eating will be my new coping mechanism. It sounds so easy as I write it but I know I will be climbing the walls to escape from the Ice Cream and Cookie Monster. They can be feckin relentless. ‘Urge surfing ‘is something that I have seen recommended. It is to literally see the temptation as an impulse resembling waves in the ocean, in that, they come and they go. Well then, here goes. Now where did I put my mental surfboard? I’ll let you know how I am getting on next week.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

Bad Hair Day

I was really excited at the prospect of a haircut a few weeks ago as it was long overdue. The girl who cuts my hair is lovely and we have great chats. I had the utmost of faith in her as usual and between chats I was reading a book on my phone. The normal style I go for is a curly bob. When she was finished, I looked up with glee only to discover that she had given me a straight bob.

I looked like Javier Barden from the movie ’No Country for Old Men’.    Hopefully without the manic psycho killer menacing vibes. I was crestfallen.     She said she wanted to give me a different look post lockdown. I felt I looked like I needed to be locked up. In the well-known Irish fashion, I smiled and said that I liked it.

I know I need to work on assertion and boundaries but on this occasion, I did not have the wherewithal to ask her to fix it.  I was glad I had brought my new bobble hat. It has quite a large bobble on it and depending on my mood I can feel self-conscious and not wear it as I am quite tall.

On a slow day I have entertained the idea of a bobble hat comedy sketch where a group of people meeting one another in a park keep seeing the bobbles on people they pass by keep getting bigger until one person has a bobble the size of their head. I might add that this notion occurred on a very slow day indeed.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

Kevin Bacon’s Mango

Apparently, Kevin Bacon has chili with his mango according to a well-known short video website, aka TikTok. I am a huge Kevin Bacon fan and being the innovative minx that I am I had to try it but with a twist.

I decided to use melon as that was the only fruit at hand. Whilst carving my melon and looking forward to sprinkling it with chili I was envisioning myself on the beach in Malibu with Kevin, Kyra, Matt Damon, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman sharing with them my new discovery of melon and chili. I tasted it with trepidation. To my astonishment it tasted woeful.    So much for my culinary invention it left me feeling quite melancholy. Maybe I will try bacon with my mango the next time….

Apologies for the disgraceful pun but I am attending therapy for my pun addiction.  If you are allergic to the overuse of puns, I must warn you in advance as my blogs will be chocker full of woeful puns.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

This is me

Hi,
Welcome to my blog and a selection of my whimsical musings designed to make you smile. Remove you from the humdrum for a while. Perhaps to enchant and beguile.
I also enjoy writing poetry and song lyrics as I find them to be a valuable cathartic tool for processing my emotions. Working as a nurse throughout my life has afforded me the privilege of caring for people. Having worked in countries such as Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and the UK I have amassed fabulous experiences of culture and people, some of which I hope to share without throughout my blog.

I would describe myself as the adventurous type and more inclined to anything weird and wonderful as opposed to the banal and prosaic. My two Morkie dogs, ‘Buzz’ and ‘Finn’ offer me great joy on a daily basis. Buzz is the blonde one and Finn the black one.
Coming home to live in Dublin in 2013 after almost 20 years living and travelling abroad as a nurse was a revelation. I couldn’t wait to get out of Dublin once I qualified as a nurse, professing that ‘I had no affinity for Dublin’. I realize now that I had to travel and see some of the world to truly understand what an amazing city it is and what a truly astoundingly beautiful country, I live in.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.

Welcome to my whimsy

Hi,

This is it.  For me  .My first blog.  The beginning of the realization of my career in writing.  Procrastination is no longer an option.    I am finally taking a leap of faith in believing that I can make you feel glad that you stopped by for a while.
Being Irish, if I could make you a cup of tea,I would.   I intend to offer you a similar feeling by making you smile whilst you read my writing.

My two Morkie dogs ‘Buzz’ and ‘Finn’ will feature frequently as they offer me my daily dose of joy whilst walking in nearby Malahide Castle or the beautiful Portmarnock beach.  They are both extremely friendly.   Embarrassingly so.  They must crane their necks, stall and whine whenever they see another person walking their dog, even if they are 200 yards away.   I am constantly apologizing for their fervor and zeal.

Whilst walking on the beach yesterday Buzz ate a starfish  .   I ran after him as I was worried it would make him ill, as he has a very sensitive tum.  Apparently there was no need to worry.  He was grand  .

Today whilst walking in the park, he did a poo.    I was half hoping that it would be starfish shaped, but alas, no.  He is talented, but not that good.    He does a mean meerkat impersonation.  Standing on his back legs for almost three minutes whilst he is waiting for another dog walker that is 200 yards away to come closer and say ‘Hi’.

That’s all for now.

Have a great day.
