Smack the pony where does all the fat go?

Smack the pony where does all the fat go?

I had forgotten how funny these comedians were until I saw this clip.  Doon Mackichan, Fiona Allen, Sally Phillips and Sarah Alexander are enormously talented.   Back in 2019 they spoke about a re union of Smack the Pony and then of course the pandemic hit. Fingers crossed that it will happen soon.

When I saw this, I was reminded of an occasion when I wore spanx.  They were industrial strength and as such I was unable to feel anything once they were on.   I had notions of myself at the time and thought that I looked fabulous.

We were at an all-day brunch at a restaurant in Dubai and I was very merry indeed. I had a new long fishtail style skirt that had a beautiful multi colored paisley pattern and I really did think that I was the bees’ knees.

Anyhoo, I had ordered drinks at the bar and was going back to my table with them when I nearly tripped up.  I looked down to see my beautiful skirt almost around my ankles.   With my lovely new spanx on show for everyone to see.  In true Irish style I did not spill the drinks.  The tray was placed gracefully onto a table and I pulled my skirt up whilst checking to see if anyone had noticed.

I was thrilled that I had gotten away with such an embarrassment.  However, upon my next trip to the bar I caught the eye of a really cute guy who was with his friends.   One of them waved over to me and said ‘Spanx for the memories’. I scurried back to my seat with a crimson face.  When I confided to my friends about the incident, they all a good giggle.

King bed with Doggy insert

King bed with Doggy insert

Now this is what I call a bed.  And how nice of the dogs to have it designed and customized so that their humans can fit inside them too.  My living room is ruled by Buzz & Finn.

They have the sofa, an armchair and doggy beds to choose from.   My home is their kingdom. Whenever they wish they can rest their weary furry heads from being cute, loving, having had too many treats and long walks.

Of course, they sleep with me. Finn burrows beneath the covers as though he is snuffling for truffles and then finally decides upon a spot to curl up in. He stays there for perhaps five minutes and then burrows out the end of the bed to get to his own doggy bed on the floor.  Buzz then takes his rightful place snuggled up beside me.

Researchers have stated that sleeping with your dog can be good for your health.  We all know that dogs can detect cancer, manage diabetes and epilepsy as well as providing therapy for the elderly and special needs.  However, yesterday I met a lady who was training her dog to help people with anxiety.  What a wonderful revelation to realize that the unconditional love of a dog can be used to help with mental health issues.

Now, where are my two little cuddle monsters?

Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter

Best of Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter

Like many I have such a girl crush on Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter. Their acting talent is mesmerizing and witnessing this clip to see how they are besties is so cute.

Yesterday I mentioned how Chris Hemsworth and James Corden are so gifted but can laugh at themselves and here are another two. Seeing them acting goofy proves that Hollywood superstars are just normal folk who want to get along with one another and have great friendships.

When I see Olivia Coleman interviewed it is hard to reconcile who she really is with her character of the Queen in ‘The Crown’. She plays the part with such grace and elegance.   But then I need to remind myself that this is what the greatest actors do.  They hold us in such a state of awe that we believe that they really are the people that they are playing.

Helena Bonham Carter plays a lot of wacky and wicked characters which I love. We just know that she is wonderfully eccentric and that this can often be reflected in her body of work.   With the exception of her earlier work in the Merchant Ivory films.

I have decided that Olivia and Helena are to be invited to my fantasy dinner. They probably do not know this yet but I am sure that when they hear that they will be delighted.  Fancy dress will be the order of the evening as I will be having it on Halloween.

Chris Hemsworth and James Corden

I have such admiration for James Corden.   Like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Good will Hunting he co-wrote the hugely successful series ‘Gavin and Stacey’ with Ruth Jones which went on to win many awards. They both desperately wanted to act but no one would hire them, which is why they created their own show.

It just goes to show that necessity is the mother of all inventions or in this case creativity.  From then on, he was the presenter for ‘A league of their own’, a brilliant sports quiz for many years as well as starring in movies.

Being the host of ‘The Tonight Show’ in America has brought his talent and humor to worldwide acclaim.   His ability to laugh at himself is what is most disarming.   Anyone that can do that is a hero in my book.

He famously sang along to a George Michael song in his car with George Michael sitting beside him for Comic Relief.

https://youtu.be/hvuENG3O9TM

This was his inspiration for ‘Car pool Karaoke’ which has gone onto have gazillions of views on YouTube.  He admits to have been in a boyband in his younger days and as such has a real appreciation for all types of music from Pop to Rock.

This clip highlights the fantastic sense of humor of Chris Hemsworth.  Despite being voted the world’s sexiest man and being a mega superstar, he can still take the piss out of himself.

I am off to see if I can get a booking in this particular restaurant and to see if I can pay extra for a fireman’s lift from Chris.

Wish me luck

Graham Norton Miriam Escobar

Graham Norton Miriam Escobar

Here is a new clip that I have found of Miriam Margolyes . I have already completed a trio of blogs on this wonderful lady but could not resist sharing this.

A very dear friend gave me the gift of a book written by Miriam Margolyes called ‘This much is true’.  The weird thing is that I had been watching some clips of Miriam on YouTube.

It was a lovely coincidence as I needed cheering up following a shitty day.  Miriam always manages to dispel any gloom that I might have as her candor and wit never cease to crack me up.

Lately I seem to manifesting a lot of things.  Therefore, I have decided to imagine Jason Mamoa in my living room playing with Buzz and Finn before offering to give me a massage.

This will relax me before I make my debut appearance at The Abbey Theatre playing the main role in a play that will win me a Tony award when it runs in the West End.  I will have written said play and will go on to win several scriptwriting awards.

Jason will be there at the end of my debut throwing me flowers before running up on stage to gather me into his arms for a romantic kiss.  My first novel- Tara Tree- will become an international best seller and my world book tour will be an absolute sensation.

Here is to my wonderful manifesting interlinked with a few delusions. But hey, it makes me smile.

Wish me luck.

https://youtube.com/shorts/uOIn82k5jxk?feature=share

This video is a wonderful example of me in the sea today. As I tried to exit gracefully from the sea the waves took me down and dressed me in seaweed. I looked like a Halloween seaweed monster. The reason that I was at this particular bay was because somebody had told me that there were lots of seals and I was desperate to meet one.

For some reason I think that I am a marine version of Dr.Doolittle. I believe that I could possibly make friends with a seal by playing and stroking it. My delusion is not completely unfounded. I have in the past had a few experiences with marine life beneath the waves as I am a scuba diver.

Once whilst diving in Oman a turtle took an interest in me and we swam around the reef together for what must have been at least 10 minutes. It really was the most incredible experience.

I have stroked a giant moray eel called ‘Freddie’ in the Indian Ocean as I was completing my advanced PADI scuba diving course in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

He lived in the funnel of an old wreck and was very well known to all of the seasoned scuba diving instructors in the area. We were about 100 feet down and when he popped his head out of the funnel.

I will never forget when he opened his mouth when being stroked as there was an incredible white honeycomb structure at the back of his throat.

I will head back to the same bay and see if I can seal the deal by making friends with one. Wish me luck.

ABBA Super Trooper

I must be manifesting cherished memories of my youth as this clip came up on YouTube when I had been talking about it the previous day.  It was released in 1980 and I got the album in my Christmas stocking.  If I recall correctly, I believe I cried when I received it.   I played ‘The winner takes it all’ non-stop for 6 months.

ABBA are one of the most famous bands in the world and have sold 150 million records, which is pretty phenomenal.  To put it into perspective George Michael sold 50 million.

When their re union was announced last month it sent the world of music into a tail spin.  Over the years I have managed to resist watching the movie ‘Mamma Mia’ as I heard that it was woeful and I do not want it to sully my love of ABBA.

The fact that they are building a stadium in Stockholm and that Ben’s son has produced the show to feature the four members as holograms is a master stroke.  The ABBA Museum is famous enough but to visualize a Vegas style arena where anyone can see the famous four in concert-albeit as holograms- is innovation on another scale.

I can only imagine that it will be the top destination for Hen Parties for decades to come.

My lunch of homemade vegetable soup is calling me.  I shall be my very own Souper Trooper and enjoy every delicious mouthful. That’s a really bad pun. Even by my standards and I do apologize.

Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction Dance Scene

This brilliant clip from Pulp Fiction popped up on YouTube the other day. The dance scene is easily as famous as John Travolta’s dance scene in Saturday Night Fever.

Saturday Night Fever-John Travolta-Bee Gees

https://youtu.be/u1qN6gLbUMw

Quentin Tarantino has revealed that the scene was inspired by Jean-Luc Godard’s masterful 1964 crime drama Bande à part (starring Anna Karina) which had an iconic dance scene of its own.

Travolta has also added that they improvised quite a bit using dance moves like The Spin, The Batman, and The Hitchhiker. I still try and pull off these moves today when I am strutting my stuff on the dance floor but nobody can do it like Uma and John.

The Madison Dance scene from Bande a Part

https://youtu.be/J1q9G2YmVqIe

The movie completely revived John Travolta’s career and also launched the career of Samuel L Jackson.  The scene where they discuss the difference between McDonald’s Big Mac versus Burger Kings best has gone down in cinematic history.   Burger King didn’t fare too well in Travolta’s review but the whole scene drips cool elegance which is genius considering they are discussing weed and burgers.

Now I ‘m hungry. I am off to get me one of them juicy burgers. And then I might just dance around my living room to ‘Misirlou’.

The household beaver dam

This little fella is so cute. It just goes to show how strong animal instinct can be. He has to build a dam no matter what. He reminds me of the beaver in The Chronicles of Narnia played by Dawn French.

Beavers like monkeys’ love to groom each other.

Many moons ago when I was working in Saudi Arabia, I can recall a few guys and their party trick was performing brilliant monkey impersonations whilst grooming one another. They mimicked picking fleas of each other.  It was quite comical to witness.

Upon further research I have come to be enlightened regarding other animals’ grooming behaviors. Apparently, deer, cows, horses, voles, mice, meerkats, coati, lions, birds, and bats also form social bonds through grooming one another.

They coati are indigenous to South America, Mexico and the USA and are a member of the racoon family. They are lovely. But I couldn’t eat a whole one. Coati Curry anyone?

Anyhoo I am off to clean my b…er.

9-11 Twin Towers

As this year is the 20th anniversary of 9-11, I felt the need to watch a documentary about the horrific events of that day.   I watched the National Geographic series on Netflix which featured testimonials of survivors.  It is still hard to believe what really happened.   The completely unnecessary loss of life and the mind-blowing heroism.

One of the stories that stayed with me was of a man who helped a woman out of the building.   The woman was blinded from severe burns.  The man helped her out of the towers by guiding her down the stairs.

When they were out and in safety the man got a call from his brother-in-law asking him to see if he had heard from his sister.    He said No.   It transpired that she was in the plane that hit the second tower with her son as her brother was helping the lady down the stairs. It still gives me goosebumps when I think of it.

Everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing that day.  It appears to be no different to when JFK, Martin Luther King, Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana died.

The event is indelibly carved into our memory.  I was boarding a plane from Newcastle to Bristol and was waiting at the gate when it appeared on the television.  I thought-as a lot of people did- that I was watching a trailer for the film ‘Independence Day 2’. After a few moments I realized that what I was witnessing was real life and not a movie.
